Fiddler on the Roof fan hits the jackpot with Drayton Entertainment’s June 50/50

July 11, 2023

“Mom screamed in the phone” after receiving the news, says Stratford’s Stacey Heinbuch

Stratford's Stacey Heinbuch met with Drayton Entertainment's Artistic Director Alex Mustakas to collect her prize after she won June's 50/50.

Like most Canadians, Stacey Heinbuch was celebrating over the July 1 long weekend. In her case, however, it wasn’t just because of the nation’s 156th anniversary.

“It sounds like Alex tried to get ahold of me a couple times over the Canada Day weekend,” she says, referring to Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment.

“I was busy at a barbecue,” recalls the lucky winner. “It wasn’t a number I recognized, so I’m like, ‘Oh, they’ll leave a message if it’s important’.”

But Mustakas preferred to keep trying. When he called again the next day, Stacey was finally able to answer the phone. Mustakas introduced himself, but even then she still didn’t realize straight away why he was calling her.

“Then he told me that I’d won. I was kind of stunned. I said, ‘Are you serious?’”

Ticket number #99001536084 resulted in a grand prize of $8,110 for the Stratford resident. On Tuesday, July 11, she visited Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge to collect her winnings.

"Drayton Entertainment's 50/50 draw is a great way to support live theatre," Mustakas says. "With world-class productions on the stage every season and a big money prize every month, it's literally a win-win."

Soon after her own surprise phone call, Stacey called her mom and dad, Millie and Ross Heinbuch, and tried to prepare them before sharing her news by asking, “Are you guys sitting down?”

After she explained how much she’d won, “Mom screamed in the phone,” she laughs.

You know how usually when I get really excited, I swear? Well, I didn’t swear!

Millie recalls, “She said to me, ‘You know how usually when I get really excited I swear? Well, I didn’t swear!’”

The family are big fans of Drayton Entertainment’s musicals, and Millie and Ross attended the production of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical in June.

Their daughter plans on spending some of her winnings on future shows, too, upholding a family tradition.

“She usually buys us tickets for Christmas,” explains Millie. “Evita’s on my list.”

Stacey herself is looking forward to Fiddler on the Roof. “It’s one of my favourites,” she says of the generational musical comedy that’s coming to Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge from November 29 to December 24.

She’s also thinking of getting away – "Far From the Home I Love", as the Fiddler song goes – for a winter break. “Somewhere warm and sunny,” Stacey says.

“I enjoy musicals, but I don’t mind a good show, as well. Over the years, I’ve seen Tuesdays with Morrie, and we came to Wizard of Oz. I’m good with pretty much anything. You guys offer a great selection.”
