The Sound of Music

A Musical Masterpiece

Music By Richard Rodgers
Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
Book by Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse
Suggested by "The Trapp Family Singers"
by Maria Augusta Trapp
Directed & Choreographed by Timothy French
Music Direction by Charlene Nafziger

Join us for a timeless classic, as our stage becomes
alive with the sound of music! In this epic love story,
an aspiring nun named Maria leaves the convent to govern the seven mischievous children of Captain von Trapp. The memorable score by Rodgers & Hammerstein features such beloved songs as “My Favourite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Edelweiss,” “Climb Every Mountain,” and of course, the glorious title song.

Surrounded by rural countryside, in close proximity to the tourism destinations of both St. Jacobs and Elora, Ontario, a visit to the Drayton Festival Theatre offers a pleasant drive along quiet roads where common sights include farm-gate signs and roadside stands that will tempt you to stop and make an impromptu purchase of fresh produce, flowers and maple syrup. Occasionally you'll pass an Old Order Mennonite horse-drawn buggy that so eloquently reminds us of life's simple pleasures.

The Drayton Festival Theatre is located in a historic 1902 Opera House that contains 375 seats and boasts marvellous acoustics with a main floor and balcony. This celebrated building once served as the Town Hall and housed the Fire Department, Library, Jail, and Council Chambers. With such a varied past, this completely modernized facility is a must-see!

This spring, bring the family and experience The Sound of Music at the Drayton Festival Theatre. Plan a Staycation and explore our neighbouring communities.
